Yes, remastering makes a MASSIVE difference. Flac is just the codec, so it would depend on what files you were comparing. A flac of a 16/44.1 file would better than mp3-320. So yeah, a 24/96 file vs 16/44.1 is definitely not snake oil. My ears are actually good enough that I can tell the difference between sample rates. And that's fine, not everyone is super selective about their audio. I mean, if you can't tell the difference between 128 and 320, sure, maybe for you it is. It's like going back to DVD after watching a blu-ray.įor a recent example, I just got in to Black Sabbath and picked up the 24/96 versions of the first 6 albums from HDTracks on a 20% sale and they sound awesome. It's so hard to even go back to regular CD quality after I get done listening to a hi-res album. I absolutely love listening to hi-resolution music.
